Botanical Name:  Cammiphora myrrha
Plant Part:  Resin

Extraction Method:  Steam Distillation, Wild Grown
Origin:  Ethiopia

Description:  The resin flows out as a yellow liquid but as it dries it will harden and turn reddish brown.  Ideally the lumps on the tree are gathered before they fall onto the ground.  The better grade of myrrh is from growers who capture the resin before it drops.

Common Uses:  Anti-catarrhal anti-inflammatory, antiphlogistic, anti-septic, carminative, cicatrisant, emmenagogue, expectorant, fungicidal, sedative, digestive and pulmonary stimulant, tonic, vulnerary.  If used as a tincture (85% alcohol in myrrh) has been credited for mouth and throat issues, bronchial congestion and for painful periods. When added to creams excellent for cracked heels or slow healing wounds, weeping skin conditions or athletes foot. Great for the spiritual aspects as is similar with Frankincense gives one inner quietness.   Myrrh is in my Root Chakra Spray to help strengthen.

History:   Often mentioned in religious texts dating back 4000 years and used in incense.  Used in the embalming process of ancient times.  Egyptian women during those times added to their facial preparations as it was known then to reduce wrinkles and had a cooling effect on the skin for the hotter climes.

Cautions:  Not recommended during pregnancy as it helps with birthing but note no significant findings to solidify that statement.  If it helps with the birthing process then scholars assume it can not be used during the gestation period.
