There’s something magical about the scents of the holiday season. From sparkling citrus to cozy spices to the freshness of winter evergreens, fragrance can instantly transform your home into a warm and festive haven. This year, you can bring the holidays to life by creating your own Christmas room spray or essential oil blend—a simple, fun DIY project that fills your space with seasonal cheer.
Whether you’re diffusing your creation during holiday gatherings or bottling it up as a handmade gift, crafting your own blend adds a personal touch that can’t be found in store-bought products.
Seasonal Essential Oils to Work With
To capture the essence of Christmas, try working with this beautiful collection of pure essential oils:
Sweet Orange & Blood Orange – bright, uplifting, and joyful
Black Spruce, Balsam, Fir & Pine – grounding, fresh, and reminiscent of winter forests
Peppermint – crisp and refreshing
Ginger & Cinnamon – warm, spicy, and cozy
Each oil carries its own seasonal magic—citrus for cheer, spices for warmth, and evergreens for that classic "fresh tree" aroma.
Aromatic Qualities & Emotional Effects
Understanding the general feel of each oil will help you build a scent that reflects your ideal holiday mood:
Citrus oils energize and brighten the atmosphere.
Spices add a sense of comfort, warmth, and nostalgia.
Evergreens promote grounding, clarity, and a sense of natural calm.
Peppermint brings a lively, refreshing wintery twist.
Blending Basics:
A good starting structure for a holiday blend is:
40% tree oils (5 ml or 120 drops)
32% orange oils (4 ml or 90 drops)
20% peppermint (2.5 ml or 60 drops)
5% ginger (0.6 ml or 15 drops)
3% cinnamon (0.36 ml or 9 drops)
Mix in a 10 ml amber bottle and fill to the neck for 12 ml. Feel free to experiment until the aroma feels just right.
Room Spray:
For a room spray, follow this dilution:
Use a 2–3% essential oil blend
That’s approximately 75-90 drops per 120 ml of final product
Mix:
Add a dispersant such as solubilizer or aloe vera gel to help the oils mix
Add essential oil drops, shake
Begin adding Distilled water to fill, and shake well
Mist onto linens, on your artificial tree or garland, or anywhere needing a touch of holiday spirit.
Diffuser Blend:
For a diffuser blend, you can use straight essential oils without dilution—just mix the oils and add 3–6 drops to your diffuser at a time.
