Description: Origanum is perennial herb, growing to about 2-3 feet high and is covered in hair. The leaves are dark green it has pink flowers when in bloom. Grown widely in Europe, and South Africa.
Common Uses: Mostly used for its Anti-viral capabilities and its ability to out last and out wit most other plants. Often used to ward off the flu season in your diffuser is best as it has a strong Phenol component which can be irritating to the skin. Used as a carminative and stimulant, rheumatism, respiratory issues like asthma, bronchitis along with common flu symptoms.
History: Its name derives from the Greeks 'joy of the mountains'. Newly married couples wore wreaths of Origanum and it was put on graves for the cleansing of the departed souls.
During the 2nd WWar they tested a variety of creatures, and plants to see what if anything could survive a bomb blast. Oregano and Cockroaches were the two things that survived.
Cautions: Not for use on Children, Pregnancy or topically on wounds, or for damaged skin.
Always use diluted with a carrier when applying to the skin.
